- Trans fats
- Trans fats are formed when liquid fats are made into solid fats by the addition of hydrogen atoms (hydrogenation). Found in many processed foods as well as deep-fried foods, butter and some hard margarines, trans fats are a major contributor to high cholesterol. Low levels of naturally occurring trans fats are also found in dairy and meat products.
- Triglycerides
- Triglycerides are fats found in the bloodstream. High levels of both triglycerides and cholesterol are risk factors for heart disease.
