- Immune system
- The role of the immune system is to defend against infection. It distinguishes between what is our body and what is foreign to us. When we are invaded by a foreign organism like a virus or bacteria, or by foreign molecules like pollen, the immune system works quickly to seek out and kill the invaders.
- Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS)
- Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are medications used to help prevent asthma attacks. They reduce the inflammation in the lungs.
- International Normalized Ratio (INR)
- International Normalized Ratio (INR) is a standardized method for reporting the results of blood clotting tests. This system allows comparison between results despite differences in testing equipment and the type of blood thinning drugs a person is taking. People who take blood thinners must have their INR measured regularly to see if the dose of medication they are taking needs to be adjusted.
- Ischemic
- Ischemic describes the interruption of blood flow (and therefore oxygen) to an organ or tissue, caused by the blockage or constriction of blood vessels.
