Eczema
Eczema is a non-contagious inflammation of the skin characterized by redness, itchiness and sores that may become scaly or crusted. Eczema can be allergic (atopic) or non-allergic.

Endoscopy
Endoscopy, or upper GI endoscopy is a visual inspection of the intestinal tract using a flexible fibre optic tube. It allows unobstructed viewing of the inside of your digestive system and can help to diagnose different digestive disorders like ulcers and esophagitis. A muscle relaxant is usually given to suppress the gag reflex. Other types of ‘scopes’ can be done, like colonoscopy, which examines the large intestine, gastroscopy for the stomach and esophagoscopy for the esophagus.

Endothelium
Endothelium is a thin layer of specialized cells that line the interior of blood vessels. Damage to these cells has been observed in several chronic diseases including heart failure, obesity and diabetes.

Esophageal sphincter
Esophageal sphincter is a circular band of muscle where the esophagus is attached to the stomach.

Esophagitis
Esophagitis is damage to the esophagus caused by persistent acid reflux from the stomach into the esophagus, which becomes inflamed and irritated.

Exacerbation
Exacerbation of asthma is when the frequency and severity of asthma symptoms and attacks worsen and require urgent medical intervention. The term exacerbation can be applied to other conditions as well, not just asthma.
